Leisure and recreation activities play a key role in enhancing the quality of care that Cook Care provides for each resident. Cook Care understands that moving to an aged an aged care facility can be a time of enormous re-adjustment. Our Diversional Therapy programs play an important role in settling our residents, introducing them to new friends and giving them meaningful and enjoyable things to do.

Each facility has at least one dedicated full- time Diversional Therapist or Recreation Activities Officer to program activities at each of our facilities. Our programs are individually tailored to needs of our residents and often include:

  • Physical - yoga, stretching, dance
  • Mental - trivia, games, craft, painting.
  • Social - themed days (Melbourne Cup, Mother’s day), BBQ’s, Happy Hour
  • Emotiona l- music, reminiscing, singing
  • Spiritual - visits from pastoral carers as requested
  • Outings in our Cook Care bus- drives, picnics, movies, concerts

All of our Recreation Activities Officers consider the needs, interests and abilities of our residents when planning activities and we welcome input and involvement from families and friends. As one of our Recreation Activities Officers' said, ‘It is the chance to have some fun and laughter that makes my job so rewarding”.

Some of the things our families have said about our programs:

“There is always activity when we come to visit Mum, the staff are wonderful in getting Mum involved, and she even loves the Trivia games …”

“It is probably the dance and music that impresses me most. Mum spent so many years looking after my dad, it is so good to see her enjoying herself again and we know that she is receiving great care as well.”

“You should see the way her face lights up when they play those old tunes!”
