Food and leisure activities are key to maintaining health and well-being and ensuring that our Cook Care facilities are vibrant and happy places to be.
We understand that eating well is extremely important to the health of our residents. Using fresh ingredients, our qualified chefs and cooks prepare a variety of nutritionally balanced meals tailored to our residents needs. We encourage our residents to join us in the dining room at meal times to socialise and make new friends. Our staff are always looking for opportunities to make meals fun and celebratory - whether it is a birthday, Melbourne Cup, St Patricks Day or simply a Spring morning tea!
Leisure and recreation activities also play a key role in enhancing the quality of care that Cook Care provides. We appreciate that moving to an aged an aged care facility can be a time of enormous adjustment. Our recreation programs play an important role in settling our residents, introducing them to new friends and providing them with stimulating and enjoyable things to do.
Each Cook Care facility provides Diversional Therapists or Recreation Activity Officers to develop a range of programs which engage their residents:
- Physical - yoga, stretching, dance
- Mental - trivia, games, craft, painting.
- Social - themed days (Melbourne Cup, Mother’s day), BBQ’s, Happy Hour
- Emotional - music, reminiscing, singing, concerts
- Spiritual - visits from pastoral carers
- Outings in our Cook Care bus - scenic drives, picnics, concerts
Our Recreation staff consider the needs, interests and abilities of our residents when planning activities and they welcome input and involvement from families and friends. As one of our Recreation Activity Officers' said, 'It is the chance to have some fun and laughter that makes my job so rewarding".
